Tuesday is the day the week stops pretending to be new. So before you open one more spreadsheet, take two minutes for some clean, warm delivery jokes from the streets of Uyo. Nobody here is the villain — not the rider, not the customer, not even the gateman who has a different nickname for every visitor. 😄
1. The landmark that retired
Customer: “When you reach the junction, turn where the mango tree used to be.”
Rider: “Madam, when did they cut it?”
Customer: “Ehn… 2019. But everybody still knows the spot.”
The rider found it. Because in Uyo, a landmark never dies — it only becomes a legend. 🌳
2. Rain heroes
When Uyo rain starts like it has a personal grudge, two things deserve national awards: the rider who still arrives with your food dry, and the umbrella that survived the walk to the gate. Your umbrella flipped inside out. The rider’s food bag did not. Respect is respect. 🌧️🏅
3. The group-order treasurer
Every office has one. They collect money for the group lunch, place the order, and then become a full detective when the food arrives.
“I ordered six pieces of chicken. I am counting five. Who has started chopping before prayer?”
The rider: already gone, five-star rating, zero involvement in the investigation. 🍗🔍
4. “Abeg add extra pepper”
A UNIUYO student wrote in the order note: “Extra pepper. Very extra. I am a strong person.”
Thirty minutes later, same student, in the group chat: “Who has milk? Asking for a strong person.” 🌶️🥛
5. The gateman checkpoint
Gateman: “Who are you looking for?”
Rider: “Mr. Effiong.”
Gateman: “Which one? We have Effiong upstairs, Effiong downstairs, and Effiong that owes me money.”
Lesson: always add your flat number. Your gateman is managing a whole universe of Effiongs. 😂
6. Hostel name confusion
Pin dropped at “the lodge with the blue gate.” The rider arrives at a street where every gate is blue. Somewhere, a painter got a very good contract that year.
7. The proudest phone in Nwaniba
That moment your phone rings and the screen says “Rider.” You answer like it is a call from abroad: “Yes! Yes! I’m coming out now!” Then you remember you are in your house slippers and still looking for your OTP. 📱
8. The perfect order note
Some notes are novels: “Pass the church, then the second church, then the place where they used to sell akara, then call me.” The best note is short: gate colour, floor, call on arrival. Riders read it once, smile, and land.
Laugh first. Then let lunch come to you.
Delivery life in Uyo is full of small, funny, very human moments — and that is what makes it ours. Thank you to every rider, vendor, and customer who keeps the city moving with patience and a little humour.
When you are done laughing, order lunch on WhatsApp or the iDeliver app — and maybe skip the “very extra” pepper. 😄🛵
