It is Sunday in Uyo — church clothes, long greetings at the gate, and the big question on the way home: “What are we eating?” Before the rice debate starts in your house, take two minutes and laugh with us. These are clean, warm delivery moments from around town — some true, some only small exaggerated. 😂
1. The church gate order
Customer, 11:58 am: “Please, I’m in service. Deliver at 1 pm sharp.” Rider arrives 12:55. Customer: “Ah, please wait — pastor said ‘finally’.” Rider waits. 1:20: “He said ‘in conclusion’.” 1:45: “Now it is announcements.” The rider has now heard the full week’s programme, including choir practice on Thursday. 🙏🏾
2. The gate puppy
Rider: “I’m at your gate. There is a small puppy here looking at me.” Customer: “Don’t worry, he is friendly.” Rider: “He is sitting on my food bag.” Customer: “Ah. He is friendly to food.” The puppy released the bag only after a gentle negotiation and one long stare. 🐶
3. Who ate my meat?
Sunday rice for five arrives. Everybody gets a plate. Five minutes later, a cry from the dining table: “Who ate my meat?” Nobody answers. The rider is long gone. The puppy is wagging his tail. The investigation continues. 🍗
4. The Sunday “I’m not hungry”
Mum: “Should I order for you?” Teenager: “No, I’m not hungry.” Food arrives. Teenager appears in the kitchen in four seconds: “Mummy, which one is my own?” 😅
5. The visitors who followed us home
Original order: lunch for three. After church greetings: lunch for three plus “Aunty, come and eat with us.” Plus her husband. Plus the twins. One quick top-up order later, the table is full and Aunty says, “You people didn’t need to stress.” Everybody: “No stress at all, Ma.”
6. The UNIUYO Sunday budget
Six students, one hostel room, one shared order. Student 1: “I’ll pay for the drinks.” Student 2: “I’ll pay for the plantain.” Student 3: “I’ll pray over the food.” The rider confirmed the address while Student 3 was still on the second paragraph. 🙌🏾
7. Sunday rest, Sunday rain
Uyo rain starts exactly when lunch is on the way. Customer: “Rider, no hurry, safety first.” Two minutes later: “Rider, sorry, the jollof is not getting cold, abi?” ☔
8. The Monday-morning person on Sunday night
Sunday, 9 pm: “Tomorrow I will wake up at 5, exercise, and cook breakfast.” Sunday, 9:05 pm: adds bread, eggs and tea to a grocery order “just in case.” Monday, 7:40 am: thanks Sunday-night self very much. 🍞
Happy Sunday from all of us
To every rider who has waited through “in conclusion,” met a food-loving puppy at the gate, or ridden through Sunday rain — thank you. To every customer who drops a clear pin with a landmark — we love you. And to whoever ate the meat — we will not tell. 💛
